WHAT IS THE BETTER PART?

Jesus, Mary and Martha

Recently, I was conversing with a family friend and referred to her dear husband as her 'darling'.  She immediately reacted saying, "No, no, not at all, my husband is not my darling - my little baby boy is my darling".

I was surprised and started to ponder on the matter.  I wondered why? On the one hand, her husband is generous, condescending, loving, giving, caring, helpful, supportive and always supplying to all her needs.  On the contrary, her newborn baby boy is constantly taking, demanding, dependent, inconsiderate, nagging, disturbing and is taking over her life completely.

Her husband was supplying to her but her baby boy was demanding from her; yet she preferred her baby boy more than her husband.

Remember the instance when our Lord Jesus went to visit Mary, Martha and Lazarus in Bethany.  Seeing Jesus, Martha ran into the kitchen to prepare food for the Him while Mary remained sitting at His feet listening to what He had to say.

We see Martha is busy trying to meet the demands of Jesus, whereas Mary was engrossed in meeting her own supply at the feet of Jesus.  We see that Martha was supplying TO Jesus whereas Mary was demanding FROM Him.

Jesus said, Mary has chosen the better part?  Whom was Jesus more pleased with? Jesus was more pleased with Mary who was receiving from Him than Martha who was trying to give Him.  That is God's grace.

Never forget that God is pleased with us when we seek His help, more than when we try to help Him.  The mother of the newborn baby found fulfilment in her role as a mother while supplying to her child.  God finds fulfilment when He gives us joy and meets our needs.  The more we receive the more He has to give.

Receiving from God glorifies Him and reveals our helplessness.  It is all about Him.  Glory to God!
