We know it is the desire of every sincere child of God to glorify God? And we have been taught that working for God, behaving right and doing good deeds bring glory to God which is only partly right.
But the word 'glory' in the Greek is δόξα (Doxa) primarily means having a 'good opinion' - Thayers' Greek Dictionary
We could rewrite the above verse as "whoso offereth praise has a 'good opinion' of me........." says the Lord.
Are we glorifying God? I mean, are we having a good opinion of God? Only if we have a good opinion of God can we offer true praise to Him.
We can have a good opinion of God when we
- Believe He loves us.
- Believe He forgave us.
- Believe He cares for us.
- Believe He wants to heal us.
- Believe He wants to bless us.
- Believe He wants to prosper us.
- Believe He wants to promote us.
- Believe He wants to do good things for us.
We cannot praise God if we have bad and blasphemous thoughts about Him. We cannot praise God if we think, He sometimes does bad things to teach us 'good' lessons. My friend, we need to change our opinion of God. He is our Father and loves us with an everlasting love. Our Lord Jesus Christ revealed the heart of our Heavenly Father when He said, "what father would give his son a stone when asked for bread, or a snake when asked for a fish, or a scorpion when asked for an egg". If this is the nature of God the Father, you cannot have negative thoughts about Him.
Therefore, if we really desire to glorify God, we must have a good opinion of Him and declare His good works. We must exalt his lovingkindness and tender mercies. We must publish His loving acts towards His people. We must propagate the good news that He died for mankind. We must declare that He is a good and loving God.
ALL OF THE ABOVE IS TO PRAISE THE LORD - HALLELUJAH!
Note: Praise the Lord is not just a form of Christian greeting. It is an active proclamation of our 'good opinion' of God. When we meaningfully say 'Praise the Lord' we are in effect glorifying God. Amen!
