Continued from Part 5………………….
We have so far seen that the Gospel according to Apostle Paul was based on Faith, the New Covenant, Adoption, Reconciliation and Propitiation.
We will now see the sixth aspect of the Gospel according to Apostle Paul.
6. IT IS A GOSPEL BASED ON REDEMPTION
Redemption
means to ‘buy back’ or ‘repossess with a payment’. It is the act of recovering or reclaiming
something that originally belonged to us.
Paul’s gospel reflects the fact that God lays claim over our lives. He owns us and we belong to Him. We were originally created and owned by God, but by heeding to the voice of satan in the garden, we forfeited our position with God and became children of the devil. But we were bought back (redeemed) with the blood of the Lamb.
Acts 20:28 – “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which
he hath purchased with his own blood.”
Eph 1:14 – “Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
Luke 20:28 – “Even as the Son of man
came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45 – “For even the Son of man
came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 – “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed
with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation
received by tradition from your fathers; but with
the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without
spot:”
Rev 5: 9 – “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and
to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every
kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”
The Lord Jesus Christ purchased us back with his blood. In a sense, it was a ransom paid to free us.
It
was God’s initiative to redeem us and make us His own. He loved us while we were His enemies. Acknowledging what God did on our behalf makes us
His children. We have become part of God's family by redemption.
Again, we see the sense of permanence of our position. God owns us and we are His prized possession. God having purchased us with His own blood, would he disown us? Be assured in the fact, that God owns us and He takes good care of what belongs to Him. Now, that is good news.
